About the campaign

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Marvin Brostrom on February 21, 2025, at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Jerry was born on October 23, 1937, in Minneapolis to Hjalmer and Olga Brostrom. Preceded in death by his father, Hjalmer, his mother Olga, his brother Irv, his son Rich, granddaughters Rose and Regn. He will be deeply missed by his wife Jean, his brother Bob, brother Richard (Sheila), daughter Julie, son Robert (Janine), daughter Liz, daughter Robyn (Chase) and son Erik (Meredith). Jerry was the proud and loving grandpa to Jessica, Jennie, Christopher, David, Hannah, Cody, Heather (Ryan), Chelsea (Devon), Dustin (Destiny), Katlyn (Grant), Vivian, Remington, Freya and Oda. He was also a great grandpa to Iris, Jackson, Oliver, Lukas, Rosalie, Atreyu and Ivan.

Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Hopkins High School and went on to graduate from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota in 1960. At the U of M, he was a part of the Theta Tau fraternity. Jerry was known for his strong will, ideation, unwavering determination, and love for his family. He was an Occupational Engineer for 3M known famously for his dual sided half face mask respirator that he was able to proudly test in person on a Navy ship. He retired after 25 years in 1999 and focused on the lake place in Alexandria.

Jerry’s greatest joys in life were being with family, caring for his pristine lawn, fishing, and spending time on Lake Darling in Alexandria. He loved cheering on the MN Vikings and MN Gophers in hockey and football. Jerry was an engineer through and through. He was always “Jerry rigging” and working on house projects, both in Burnsville and Alexandria. When he wasn’t working on his lawn, the shoreline, or tinkering, he was telling stories from the past barefoot on the deck at the lake or sneaking sweet treats for him and his grandkids. He always lifted those around him with his goofy sense of humor and contagious laugh. He will be so very missed by those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to The Lake Darling Area Association. This is to continue and help preserve the lake he loved.
